Rabat – Morocco has gone up by eight ranks in the Legatum Prosperity Index in the past decade, according to the latest report published on November 15.
The Index, which compresses data from 300 indicators, indicates that Morocco ranks 91st out of the 167 countries included in the research.
Covering 99.4% of the global population, the Legatum Prosperity Index comprises four domains, spanning 67 pillars like Enterprise Conditions and Social Capital, among others.
Morocco’s “Enterprise Conditions Pillar” is by far the best performing pillar for the North African country, according to the Index. Morocco rose by 25 ranks in the Enterprise pillar in the last decade, reaching 73rd place in the 2021 ranking.
Morocco’s investment environment seems to be strongly performing as well, climbing up the global ranking by 15 places over the past decade to reach the 64th position in 2021.
Most notably, investor protection is at an all-time high level in Morocco, with the North African country ranking in the top 50 worldwide.
Also in the green is Morocco’s “Safety and Security pillar,” with an overall positive performance especially on accounts of fighting terrorism where Morocco rose by 59 places since 2011.
However, the “Social Capital” pillar is the weakest performing in Morocco. The country fell by a staggering 25 place in Social Capital ranking, reaching a close-to-bottom 160th ranking out of 167 countries and falling behind war-ravaged Yemen.

The Social Capital pillar comprises indicators on the quality of personal and family relationships, interpersonal trust, and civic and social participation.
On the Civic and Social Participation front, Morocco’s rankings are all in the red, falling by 11 places within 10 years indicating. This indicates an overall decline in donated money for charity, voter turnout, volunteering, and public dissent in the past decade.
