Rabat – The Sidi Bernoussi police department in Casablanca has arrested a drug dealer suspected of kidnapping, stabbing, and raping a young girl in the neighborhood of Sidi Moumen.
Daily newspaper Assabah reported today that the defendant was brought before the General Prosecutor’s Office last week, which prosecuted him for kidnapping, raping, and assaulting the victim.
The assault dates back to a few weeks when a young girl passed by the drug trafficker, nicknamed “Lamsaimer.” He followed her and threatened her with a gun to accompany him to a secluded place.
The victim resisted the drug dealer and tried to flee but to no avail, according to Assabah’s report.
As the man tried to rape her, the young girl defended herself and began shouting to attract the attention of passers-by. To silence her, the rapist stabbed her in the face and threatened to slit her throat.
Assabah reports that the perpetrator fled to an unknown destination after raping the girl.
The victim then went directly to file a complaint at the judicial police station of Sidi Bernoussi and an investigation was instantly opened to find the rapist.
Days later, the rapist returned to the scene of the incident to peacefully resume his drug dealing activities.
The police managed to arrest him despite fierce resistance.
He was later taken into custody, where he confessed his crimes while claiming that he was drugged when raping and stabbing the young girl.
However, he denied intending to slit the victim’s throat when he put the knife to her neck, saying he just wanted to silence her.
This case is the latest of many similar incidents in Morocco.
Last year in September, the case of Naima, a 5-year-old girl who went missing and was found dead in Zagora, a small city in southeastern Morocco, sparked a national outrage over child abuse.
In the same month last year, police in the northern Moroccan city of Tangier found the body of 11-year-old Adnane Bouchouf buried near his house after he was kidnapped and raped.
Both incidents stirred a nationwide wave of protests against pedophilia and child abuse, with activits and angry ordinary citizens calling more legal protection for children, including the application of the death penalty as punishment for crimes against children.
