Fez – The General Assembly of the Association of Regions of Morocco (ARM) appointed this week Mbarka Bouaida as its president.
The election took place on November 23 during an assembly that gathered all the new presidents of Regional Councils across Morocco.
Bouaida of the National Rally of Independents (RNI), whose candidacy was highly favored, was re-elected on September 21 as president of the Council of the Guelmim-Oued Noun region.
In a statement, the association detailed that the new board is composed of Abdellatif Mazouz (1st Vice President), Rachid El Abdi (2nd Vice President), Omar Moro (3rd Vice President), and Adil Barakat (Treasurer).
The Assembly also appointed Abdennabi Biioui as secretary-general and Sidi Hamdi Ould Errachid as Deputy Treasurer. Mohand Laenser, the outgoing president, was appointed as an honorary member of the board.

During the meeting, Laenser outlined the main activities organized by the association during the 2016-2021 period. The outgoing president emphasized the main projects carried out in partnership with the main national institutions, noting the fruitful cooperation with the General Directorate of Local Authorities.
The Association of Regions of Morocco was created in 2007, at the initiative of the presidents of the Moroccan regions. The body prides itself on consolidating the role of the regions and advocating their plans vis-a-vis the public authorities.
The institution is in line with the framework of the implementation of the Royal Project for “advanced regionalization,” regional development, and the establishment of participatory democracy.
The first National Conference on Advanced Regionalization in Agadir took place on December 20, 2019. King Mohammed VI gave a speech urging the government to work seriously on the project, noting the urgent need to improve public services and increase administrative performance.
