Moroccans Top List of Foreigners Who Bought Most Houses in Spain

Recent data shows that Moroccans topped the list of foreigners who bought the most houses in Spain in the first half of 2021.

Rabat – Recent data shows that Moroccans topped the list of foreigners who bought the most houses in Spain in the first half of 2021.

Moroccans in Spain bought 5,159 houses in Spain during the period, with the figures representing 10.8% of the total operations in Spain’s real estate market.

According to Ok Diario, following Moroccans are British, with 4,614 houses bought or 9.7% of the total transactions.

Romanians came third with 3,770 homes (6.5%).

“Moroccans outperformed British people, who led transactions in Spain in the second half of 2020, with 13M of transactions,” the Spanish news outlet reported.

Ok Diario added that purchases of housing by foreigners increased by 47% in the interannual rate between January and June in 2021

“Notaries said that the increase is due to the COVID crisis,” the Spanish newspaper said.

It added, “The operations carried out by foreigners represented 15.4% of the total sales at the national  level, lower than the average between 2012 and 2019 (18.7%).” 

Data from the Spanish government frequently indicate that Moroccans remain the top non-EU community in terms of contribution to the Spanish social security system. 

Recent data from the Spanish government showed that over  275,000 members of the Moroccan diaspora in Spain are registered to the Spanish social security. Also indicated in the data is that Moroccans remain the community with the highest number of legal workers in Spain.
