Rabat – A French MP stressed in a statement this week the need for both France and the European Union to consolidate their diplomatic relations with Morocco, describing the North African country as a “reliable partner.”
Antoine Herth, an MP for the Bas-Rhin Department at the French National Assembly, made the remarks during a meeting on November 15 with Morocco’s Consul General in Strasbourg, Driss El Kaissi.
In the meeting, Herth spoke of Morocco’s strategic importance as a bridge between Africa and Europe, saying that the country “continues its development and its affirmation in the African continent as a leader.”
He highlighted Morocco’s position in the Arab world as well, explaining that the North African country has emerged as an important regional voice “thanks to its very important role in the Libyan question and the peace process in the Middle East with the Abraham Accords.”
The French MP further expressed his “admiration” for the Moroccan agricultural policy that achieves “the self-sufficiency of the national market and manages to export quality products abroad” especially in Europe, according to a statement from the Moroccan consulate in Strasbourg.
In their meeting, Herth and El Kaissi also exchanged views on Morocco’s latest elections. The French MP emphasized the remarkable involvement of youth in Morocco’s 2021 elections and said he was particularly “impressed” by the increase in the participation rate of more than 50%, seven points higher than the 2016 legislative elections.
He also commended the “strong” participation of the Moroccan Southern province population in the latest elections, which exceeded the average voting rate across the country.

The French MP described the southern provinces’ strong participation as a “sign of their attachment to Morocco’s autonomy plan” for Western Sahara.
Herth called on Europe “to safeguard its multidimensional partnership with the Kingdom [of Morocco], particularly in terms of green energy thanks to Morocco’s remarkable advances on renewable energies,” the statement concluded.
Morocco’s renewable energy sector has thrived in recent years, and Moroccan authorities’ continuous efforts to promote renewable energy and combat climate change are strengthening the country’s position as a leader in the African continent and worldwide.
British audit firm Ernst & Young (EY) has just ranked the North African country as the most attractive location for renewable energy investments in the MENA region.
