Rabat – Morocco’s National Customs Services seized on Sunday, November 14, large quantities of smuggling contraband products, including 260,000 bottles of nitrous oxide.
The illegal goods were found after the customs services carried out a search in two Casablanca shops . The investigation was conducted in collaboration with the Regional Customs Directorates of Tangier Mediterranean and Casablanca-Settat, according to the Administration of Customs and Indirect Taxes (ADII).
The search was part of the services’ strategic missions to contribute to the protection of public health and fight against smuggling and commercial fraud.
The operation resulted in the seizure of large quantities of prohibited and smuggled goods, including 260,000 bottles of nitrous oxide, known to be used as a harmful narcotic, as well as a large number of mobile phones, computers, various clothing and 10 zodiacs used for drug trafficking and illegal immigration.
Investigations are still ongoing to unveil the circumstances of the operation and identify the accomplices.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office supervised the operation.
Security services in Morocco are committed to combat drug trafficking, said ADII.
Last month, security services at the Tangier-Med port seized a major international drug trafficking operation, seizing 1.35 Tonne of cocaine hidden in 40 black suitcases.
In June, a 54-year-old man was arrested in Tangier-Med port in possession of 2.85 kilograms of cocaine.
The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) underlined in a report that Morocco’s security services seized a total of 132 kilograms and 167 grams of cocaine in 2020, while police seized 476,923 psychotropic pills, 8 kilograms and 501 grams of heroin, and more than 217 tonnes of cannabis during security operations.
