Rabat – Casablanca’s Jewish community has denied rumors of introducing tax policy per person per night for the issuance of the “Kosher Label Morocco” certificate.
Casablanca’s Kosher Commission in a statement that their intention was “never to introduce a tax per person per night in return for the issuance of the Kosher Label Morocco which fees can in no way be similar to any tax which establishment remains under the responsibility of the law,” said Casablanca’s Kosher Commission in a statement.
The commission firmly denied the rumors about the Jewish community of Casablanca launching a tax policy for tourism operators and Jewish visitors to benefit from Kosher services.
Kosher refers to food that complies with the strict dietary standards of traditional Jewish law.
“The perception of the contributions has been subject to misinterpretations going so far as to consider that the Kosher Commission is practicing racketeering against the organizers of this type of stay,” the commission further explained.
The Kosher Commission underlined that they are in the process of setting up an organization to carry on many of the missions it has been entrusted with by Morocco’s public authorities. It noted that the organization will operate in accordance with the joint inter ministerial circular of July 23, relating to the conditions for the delivery of Kosher services.
The circular states that establishments may only issue services deemed “kosher” after obtaining a “Teoudah” authorization issued by the Kosher Commission.
“The fees collection has always served and will serve to cover the costs induced by the issuance of the Kosher Morocco label to contribute to the financing of the Israelite cult and guarantee the Kosher certification,” underlined the statement.
