Rabat- Morocco has stamped out the Delta wave after 19 weeks of sustained efforts and entered an inter-wave period, according to Dr. Mouad Mrabet, coordinator of the Moroccan National Center for Public Health Emergency Operations at the Ministry of Health.
Sharing his thoughts about the evolution of Morocco’s COVID situation on LinkedIn, Dr. Mrabet spoke notably about the country’s effective response to the global health crisis.
He added, however, “The end of the delta variant wave does not mean the end of the epidemic. The background noise will continue.” Dr. Mrabet also recalled the previous period between the different waves of COVID infections.
“Right after the short period of discrete resurgence of cases related to the collective installation of the Alpha variant,” he explained, Morocco succeeded in curbing the spread of the virus. “Thanks to restrictive measures,” the inter-wave period “was characterized with an average number of cases of 300-400 per day.”
Morocco recorded 138 new COVID-19 cases and 10 deaths in the past 24 hours.
The first case of the Delta-variant was identified in India in late 2020. It has now been identified in at least 85 countries, including the United States, Russia, United Kingdom, and in multiple European countries.
Despite the growing number of vaccinations being administered around the world, the Delta variant continues to impose a worldwide threat.
While Morocco may have eradicated the delta wave, Dr. Mrabet warned, “a new wave is unfortunately very likely to happen given the epidemiological situation in Europe.”
Pointing out that “the contamination risk during this period is not zero and also the risk of serious Covidosis is not zero,” he called for the continuation of the vaccination urging citizens and residents to respect all the usual preventive measures.
