COVID-19: Morocco Has Fully Vaccinated Over 22 Million

Rabat- Morocco’s Health Ministry has recorded a total of 138 new cases throughout the country in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of infections since March 2020 to 946,283 cases.

Current active cases in Morocco stand at 4,581, and the fatality rate shows 1.6% with 10 new COVID-19-related deaths in the past 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the recovery rate increased to 98% as 591 people recovered in the last 24 hours, reaching a total of  927,024 recoveries since the COVID crisis began.

8 new critical cases were admitted to the hospital in the last 24 hours.

Regionally, health officials reported that the Rabat-Sale-Kenitra region recorded 122 new COVID-19 cases and 8 deaths, making it the highest-ranked region in terms of new cases.

Casablanca-Settat comes second with 7 new cases and 1 death, while the region of Fes-Meknes reports 1 new case.

Moroccan health authorities indicated that the total number of fully vaccinated individuals in the country reached 22,097,957 people, while 24,233,292 individuals have been administered their first dose.

Morocco launched the administration of the third dose of vaccine, also called “booster shot” on October 4, and 1,434,692 individuals have been administered the third dose as of November 1.

If the current trend is maintained, Morocco is on track to achieve its goal of hitting an 80% vaccination rate, or 33 million people, by the end of 2021. Despite Morocco’s manifestly effective COVID response, Moroccan health professionals are still urging citizens to maintain vigilance, warning that another wave of COVID-19 infections is still a possibility.

To sustain the current improvement in Morocco’s epidemiological situation, the health authorities warned that people should get vaccinated and continue following the standard preventive measures to avert a new wave of infections that could jeopardize all the gains Morocco has made in recent weeks.

On October 18, the Moroccan government decided to adopt a “vaccine pass” for travel and access to public spaces.

The measure entails allowing vaccinated people with a valid vaccine pass to move freely between cities and provinces across Morocco on private or public transportation.

The pass is also necessary to travel abroad.

Civil servants, employees, and users of administrations are also required to provide the vaccine pass to access public, semi-public, and private administrations.
