Rabat – Malian Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdoulaye Diop, emphasized that his country adopts enthusiasm to see cooperation between Morocco and Mali.

The minister made his remarks during a ceremony organized in honor of the Ambassador of Morocco to Mali, Hassan Naciri, marking the end of his mission. Several Malian officials and diplomats attended the ceremony held in Bamako.

During the ceremony, Diop commended Morocco’s royal diplomacy and its commitment to Mali-specific issues, in particular, regional security in West Africa.

The Malian official also recalled the socio-economic achievements of Morocco, reiterating gratitude to Rabat for its support to his country across sectors.

On the instruction of Assimi Goita, the president of the transitional government in Mali,   Morocco’s Naciri received the rank of Officer of the National Order of Mali. It is the highest distinction awarded to Ambassadors accredited in the country.

During his talks, senior Malian officials expressed their high appreciation for the role of King Mohammed VI in appeasing the volatile situation in Mali.

They also appreciated the “royal diplomacy and its commitment to defend the Malian issues, stressing that they are counting on the support” of Morocco to accompany Mali to overcome the difficulties of the current stage.

On August 18, Mali’s military overthrew President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.

Morocco was among the first countries that expressed support for Mali’s transitional government while pending elections.

In October, Morocco Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita received Diop in Rabat to discuss bilateral relations. Both officials spoke about the increasingly worrying regional security situation in the Sahel.

Aware of terror threats in the region, Morocco has repeatedly called for a shared responsibility to tackle the security situation.
