A Moroccan man living in Italy found €1,300 near an automated teller machine (ATM) and returned it to its owner.

Yassine Ballouki, a 28-years old, has been living in Italy for 12 years, Italian news outlet Gazzettino reported.

The news outlet said the  Moroccan man found the money near the ATM and took it to the Carabinieri, the national gendarmerie of Italy.

After investigation, security services detected the money owner’s identity thanks to a surveillance camera near the ATM.

The Moroccan man posed in a picture handing the money over to the rightful owner.

According to the Italian news outlet, the owner attempted to give the Moroccan man a “reward.”

Ballouki refused to take the reward. “I didn’t do anything special. I did what I had to do. The money is not mine,” he said.

This is not the first time a Moroccan national made headlines for returning lost wallets or money to their owners.

In July 2021, Italian media labeled a Moroccan man in Italy a hero for returning a lost wallet in the town of Maranello. Chakri Azzedine found the wallet containing  €820, credit cards, and ID cards belonging to Mirko Masini, an Italian national.

Masini offered a portion of the money to the Moroccan man in exchange for his gesture. Azzedine, however, refused the reward.
