Rabat – Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has issued a weather alert for the weekend, as heavy rainfall and occasional thunderstorms are expected in several regions across the country.
The government is calling for vigilance in the province of Aousserd, where heavy rainfall and occasional storms are predicted between 6 p.m. on Saturday and noon on Sunday.
The weather alert further extends to the provinces of Assa-Zag, Es-Semara, Ouarzazate, Tata, and Zagora where intense weather conditions are expected between 3 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday.
The predicted heavy weather conditions are labelled as “orange level” alert, indicating possible “big risks” if citizens are caught unaware. Heavy rainfall, the DGM warns, presents a danger through the rainfall itself, “by the consequences of flooding, or by the two phenomena together.”
While temperatures are expected to be generally mild and sunny across the kingdom, the DGM has called for extra vigilance in the affected regions. The DGM, as part of the Ministry of Equipment and Water, issues regular warnings and advice to alert citizens of extreme weather events to prevent any unnecessary property damage or injury.
