Rabat- Morocco’s national carrier Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has announced special flights from Morocco to Belgium, Canada, France, Gabon, Italy, Ivory Coast, Senegal, and Spain.
As part of the company’s emergency plan amid border closure in the North African country, the special flights to the listed countries are scheduled from December 14, 2021 to December 31.
RAM also emphasized on Friday that the flights are being arranged under special authorization.
The Moroccan government decided on November 29 to suspend all flights from and to the country amid the outbreak of Omicron, a new strain of COVID dubbed dangerous.
Morocco’s government cited alarming reports surrounding Ovicron in Europe and southern Africa when announcing its two-week flight suspension.
Although the country is yet to record a case of Omicron, authorities have consistently pledged to redouble their efforts amid a global Omicron panic while urging citizens to get vaccinated and remain vigilant.

And while there is still no consensus over the effectiveness of the existing COVID-19 vaccines in the face of this contagious and “dangerous” variant, many health experts have said that Omicron is highly likely to weaken vaccine efficiency.
Since the announcement of the two-week border closure on November 29, Royal Air Maroc has scheduled several special flights to help repatriate stranded tourists and residents.
