Rabat – The Secretary General of the Federation of Arab Businessmen and former Jordanian Minister of Energy Tabit Attaher said at the Arab Thought Forum (ATF) that Morocco is among the Arab countries that have managed to develop their own platforms for the production of renewable energy.
Speaking at a video conference meeting debate at ATF, Attaher listed Morocco, Jordan, and the United Arab Emirates among the Arab countries that have succeeded in developing renewable energies and are working to further boost their production in the sector.
The use of alternative energy must be focused on electrical energy and increasing its production, he added, stressing the predominance of political and security matters over the energy sector in terms of production, distribution, and prices.
Attaher also stressed the need for coordination among Arab countries to develop their technology in the field of renewable energies, especially solar energy.

Also speaking at the debate, Kamal Kaissi, economist and member of the Forum, said that the use of hydrocarbon resources contributed to launching important activities that have influenced the politics, economy and finances of countries producing and consuming gas and oil.
Kaissi stressed that oil zones in the Middle East are “characterized by instability due to complex geostrategic factors, conflicts and economic and political fluctuations.” This situation has pushed the US and Europe to turn to other oil areas far from these regions, he explained.
For his part, the Secretary-General of the ATF, Mohammed Abu Hammour, noted that the MENA region will witness many changes once it transitions to renewable energy.
“Several countries have recorded unprecedented growth in renewable energy over the past decade, including the UAE, Egypt and Jordan,” he said, citing the cost of production and the investment factor as the main vector of sustainable economic growth.
ATF’s video conference was presented as an opportunity to discuss major changes in the energy field and its uses, as well as its impacts on nature, economy, and investment in the Middle East.
Attendees reiterated the importance of transitioning to renewable energies through the use of technological and scientific advances. They especially called on countries with important oil reserves to develop alternative solutions while preparing for transitioning to renewable energies that will play a pivotal role in economic systems in the future.
