Rabat – Morocco and Switzerland have pledged to improve their bilateral cooperation in all areas of interest, including trade relations and diplomatic dialogue.
Following a meeting between Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita, the President of the National Council Irene Kalin, and the Chief of Foreign Affairs Ignazio Cassis, the Moroccan and Swiss governments stressed the need to further cement their improving ties.
The two countries signed two accords for increased bilateral cooperation, particularly vowing to deepen their cooperation in the field of political consultation, as well as a joint declaration on Article 6 of the Paris Climate Accords.
Under these agreements, the countries intend to hold annual meetings to increase cooperation in various fields, such as security and cooperation in the Mediterranean and European regions.
The two parties also expressed their intention to enforce climate action. Through a bilateral agreement set to go into effect in early 2022, the two countries hope to take more action in implementing the Paris Climate Accords.
Morocco and Switzerland hope to specifically work together on issues relating to Article 6 of the accord, which concerns the transfer of greenhouse gas emissions between different countries.

The signing of this week’s bilateral accords came during Bourita’s visit to Bern, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary for the diplomatic presence of Switzerland in Morocco.
The visit was concluded with a joint declaration in which the two countries promised to further their ties and cooperation on a broad range of topics of shared interests.
The declaration notably noted the readiness of the two countries to accelerate their cooperation and pursue more frequent high-level meetings between their officials.
Bern and Rabat also expressed satisfaction with the free trade agreement linking Morocco with members of the European Free Trade Association, stressing and expressed the importance of the two countries’ double taxation agreement as a foundation for increased bilateral economic cooperation.
The declaration included details of future cooperation in various other fields, such as technology and justice.
