Rabat – Morocco’s Interior Ministry announced, on Thursday, that the census procedure for mandatory military service will begin on December 13, 2021 and end on February 10, 2022.
As instructed by King Mohammed VI, the draft will affect young people reaching the ages of 19 to 25 years old by May 2022, and who meet the conditions required by law to perform their military service.
The operation is part of the measures needed for the selection and integration of the next military service draftees.
Morocco’s Central Commission indicated that eligible individuals can check the website tajnid.ma, starting December 13, to verify that their name is in the list of future draftees.
Young citizens whose names are included in the list will receive an order from the local administrative authorities, and will be called to fill out the census form on the website starting the same date.
In a press release from the Ministry of Interior, Minister Abdelouafi Laftit informs young people, female and male, who wish to volunteer for military service, can complete the form and apply on the website.

Young Moroccans living abroad are also encouraged to register to perform the service, indicated the same source.
“Any information relating to the military service can be obtained from the administrative authorities closest to their homes, from intelligence services located in various provinces of the country, or from the official military service website,” continued the press release.
King Mohammed VI ensured that Morocco’s armed forces will provide all the necessary and appropriate means needed for training the new conscripts.
This includes the establishment of four additional training centers in Benslimane, Sidi Yahya El Gharb, Ben Guerir and Tan-Tan, as well as other specialized units in southern Morocco.
The reintroduction of mandatory military service met with significant criticism from Moroccans when it reappeared in Moroccan public discourse in 2019.
However, many supporters of the draft defend its advantages for the country, which consist in strengthening young Moroccans’ attachment to their country and instilling values of brotherhood and solidarity.
