Casablanca– Morocco’s U17 women’s national team clinched the 2026 UNAF Tournament title after edging hosts Tunisia 4-3 on Wednesday in a thrilling final-round clash at the Ariana Stadium, on the outskirts of Tunis.
The tournament, played in a single-group format, came down to a decisive showdown between Morocco and Tunisia after both sides entered the final match with the title still within reach.
Morocco opened its campaign with a 1-1 draw against invited side Botswana before recording a commanding 10-0 victory over Libya in the second round.
With Tunisia having already beaten both Botswana and Libya, the Atlas Lionesses needed a win in the final match to secure the trophy.
They delivered exactly that, overcoming Tunisia in a seven-goal encounter to finish top of the standings and lift the regional title.
Speaking after the victory, head coach Younes Rabii welcomed both the result and his team’s overall performances throughout the competition.
Rabii said the tournament had served as an important opportunity for his young squad to gain valuable international experience against North African opponents, as well as Botswana, which participated as a guest team from Southern Africa.
He added that the competition came at an ideal time ahead of the start of the new season, allowing the players to build chemistry and gain competitive minutes.
The coach also highlighted the long-term importance of the squad, noting that the team comprises players born in 2010 who are expected to form the foundation of Morocco’s U17 women’s national team in preparation for the 2027 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The triumph continues Morocco’s growing investment in women’s football, with youth development remaining a key focus as the country looks to strengthen its presence on the continental and international stage.
