Fez – Morocco’s government has approved a decree that will place the Moroccan Agency for Energy Efficiency (AMEE) under the supervision of the government authority responsible for the energy transition.
Morocco’s Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development Leila Benali presented the draft decree which was then aproved, according to a government statement on January 13.
The government approved the draft decree No. 2.22.03, amending Decree No. 2.10.320 published on May 20, 2011, on the implementation of Law No. 16.09 on the Moroccan Agency for Energy Efficiency (AMEE). The government approved the amendments during a videoconference meeting chaired by Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch.
The realignment takes into account the prerogatives and powers conferred on the government authority responsible for finance, under the laws and regulations applied to public institutions.
The decree also aims to review the composition of the AMEE board of directors, which is held under the chairmanship of the Head of Government or the government authority mandated by the Head of Government for this purpose.
The AMEE is a strategic public institution, whose mission is to contribute to the implementation of the national energy policy. The institution through the democratization and promotion of energy efficiency aims to reduce energy dependence and preserve the environment.
