Rabat – The Moroccan actor Abdellatif Hilal has passed away in Casablanca at 82 years old. Hilal was hospitalized due to anemia and heart disease.
The Regional Directorate of Culture of Casablanca-Settat region broke the news today, January 27, in a Facebook post.
“The Regional Directorate of Culture in the Casablanca-Settat region received with great sadness and sorrow the news of the passing of the late artist Abdellatif Hilal,” the statement said. It added, “With his passing, the cultural and artistic scene lost one of the pillars of Moroccan theater and art in general.”
The regional directorate also addressed sincere condolences to Abdellatif Hilal’s family and entourage.

In 1967, Hilal started his career in theater as an amateur. He later became a professional theatrical performer and joined Theater of People in Ain Chock, Casablanca.
The Moroccan director Tayeb Saddiki (1939-2016) founded “Theater of People” to train young aspiring actors who are interested in theater.
Abdellatif Hilal’s career touched many Moroccans over the decades. His famous works include Marhoum (Deceased), Dilal Al Madi (Shadows of the Past), and Akhta’ Sabaa (The Seven Mistakes).
