Rabat – Morocco has released another orange level weather alert, forecasting snowfall in several provinces across the country between Wednesday and Friday.
The Moroccan General Directorate of Meteorology (DMN) said today that the snowfall will hit the provinces of Azilal, Al Haouz, Tinghir, Errachidia, Midelt, and Ouarzate, with the level of snowfall expected to range between 20 and 40 centimeters in the aforementioned provinces.
DMN also forecasts snowfall ranging between 10 and 20 centimeters in Figuig, Zagora, and Taroudant.
The orange level alert followed the weather office’s statement on Tuesday about rainfalls that will also hit several provinces today.
The forecast includes rainfall ranging between 20 and 35 millimeters in the provinces of Marakech, Youssoufia, Rehamna, Ouarzazate, and Taroudant.
Rainy weather is usual in Morocco, although the North African country has experienced a significant decrease in the frequency of heavy rains in recent weeks.
The decrease has raised concerns among farmers as rainfalls are significant for Morocco’s agriculture sector, which contributes considerably to Morocco’s economy..
In 2020, the agriculture sector contributed around 12.23% to Morocco’s GDP.
