Rabat – Local authorities in the Tamorot commune in the Chefchaoun province said today that the drilling works reached a depth of more than 28 meters.

The services will begin horizontal drilling immediately after reaching a depth of  32 meters, where Rayane is trapped.

“Excavation works stopped from time to time to take the necessary measures because the operation reached a complex phase,” a source from local authorities told news agency MAP.

Local authorities have set up a monitoring committee to study all risks that drilling operations can cause.

Temporary stops to the drilling operations have been part of necessary measures to avoid the collapse of the soil and rocks in the well.

A team of topographers and local authorities are deploying bulldozers and heavy machinery to help rescue Rayane.

Morocco’s government vowed on Thursday that it has all capacities to rescue Rayane.

The father of Rayane expressed thanks to all Moroccans, the media, and King Mohammed VI for their support.

He emphasized that he received support from many officials, reassuring him that they will help to rescue his child.

His father also said: “My son can move and authorities offered him water and food,” the father told Al Arabiya.

Social networks are filled with messages of compassion and support from people across the world, media, embassies, as well as public figures who expressed solidarity with the family of the five-year-old boy.

People are supporting Rayane from all over the world, including Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, among other countries are also using the #SaveRayane hashtag, which has gone viral ever since the first day of the incident.
