Rabat – Moroccan football player Abderrazak Hamdallah has offered to buy an equipped house for the family of Rayan, the five-year-old boy who recently died after spending five days trapped in a well near Chefchaouen.

The football player took to social media to express condolences after the death of Rayan. The 5-year-old boy spent five days in a well, where he was trapped since February 1.

Rayan’s story garnered unprecedented support and generosity from Moroccans and rescuers who teamed up to pull Rayan out of a 32-meter narrow well in the Tamorot region.

After four days of digging, rescuers were able to dig Rayan out of the well. Shortly after Rayan was taken out of the narrow shaft, a royal cabinet statement announced that he had died.

It is still unknown whether Rayan died long after rescuers reached or shortly before or after being dug out of the well he had been trapped in for days.

Rayan’s plight sparked an outpouring of solidarity and support from all over the world.

Hamdallah was among the football stars who joined their voices to those of politicians, celebrities, and ordinary citizens who mourned the tragic passing of Rayan.

“We have gone through hard days and our hearts were snatched from us,” Hamdallah said.

The football player extended his deepest condolences to Rayan’s family, adding: “I have decided, on behalf of my family’s name and in the name of all Moroccans and Muslims, to help and bring a little joy to Rayan’s family.”

Hamdallah offered the family an equipped house, saying that the donation is help from a brother to his brothers.

“This is an invitation to everyone who can help them, including actors, singers, athletes, officials, and famous people,” he said.

Hamdallah’s message of solidarity received applause from many people, including public figures, influencers, among others.

Moroccan singer Dounia Batma also announced that she is donating a sum of money to Rayan’s family.

“This is my duty as a Moroccan to bring at least a smile to the family of Rayan, the son of all Moroccans.”

She also asked everyone who can afford a donation to help Rayan’s family.
