Emir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani received this morning at the Amiri Diwan, the office of the Amir of Qatar,  Morocco’s head of government, Aziz Akhannouch, and the accompanying ministerial delegation on his visit to the Gulf country, according to Qatari media.

A Moroccan ministerial delegation headed yesterday to Qatar to take part in the joint Morocco-Qatari commission meeting.

The joint commission is holding today the eighth meeting in the presence of Morocco’s head of government Aziz Akhannouch and his Qatari counterpart in Doha, Qatar’s capital.

Qatari Prime Minister and Interior Minister HE Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, was also present in the meeting, along with side Qatari Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Chief of the Amiri Diwan HE Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

Morocco’s minitrial delegation includes Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita, Economy and Finance Minister Nadia Fatiha Alaoui, Energy Transition and Sustainable Development Minister, Leila Benali, Economic Inclusion, and Small Businesses Minister, Youness Sekkouri, and Youth, Culture, and Communication Minister, Mehdi Bensaid.

Morocco and Qatar enjoy excellent diplomatic relationships and are actively working to boost bilateral cooperation. The two countries have pledged to boost cooperation in the energy sector, with the Moroccan and Qatari energy ministers holding a series of video conferences in May 2021 to set a roadmap for future cooperation.

Qatar is by far one of the largest foreign investors in Morocco, ranking fifth in 2016 in terms of the inflow of direct investments to the North African country, according to data from Morocco’s Exchange Office.

Trade between the two countries is recording a steady growth, going from $90 million in 2017 to $207 million in 2021, a 130% increase.
