British Airways To Resume Flights to Morocco

Rabat – British Airways will resume international flights to Morocco tomorrow, January 10.

The airlines’ destination is Marrakech with an initial frequency of five flights a week. Flights departing from London’s Gatwick airport will resume on March 31 with the same initial frequency, British travel outlet TTG media reported on February 7.

“The FCDO advises that UK travelers [18-years-old or older wanting to enter Morocco] must present a valid vaccine pass, with the second dose having taken place at least two weeks before travel, as well as proof of a negative PCR test result, with the sample having been taken within 48 hours of boarding,” TGG stated, adding “All passengers will face an antigen test on arrival.”

Before the global spread of COVID-19 in March 2020, Morocco welcomed an average of 700,000 visitors from the United Kingdom annually, according to the British government website. “Most visits are trouble-free,” the site affirmed.

Earlier this month, Adel El Fakir, the director-general of Morocco’s National Tourism Office (ONMT) held meetings with representatives of EasyJet and British travel operators in London to promote Moroccan tourism in the international tourism market.

“These meetings are crucial because the British market is extremely important to us. Today, we are more than ever determined to recover our position and to do everything possible to develop all the potential of this market with high added value,” Fakir stated.

The ONMT director-general also organized meetings with French and Spanish travel operators including airlines such as Transavia, EasyJet, and Iberia.

Many international airlines have welcomed the Moroccan decision to reopen airspace on February 7, resulting in a gradual return to pre-pandemic mobility. The Moroccan maritime borders remain closed until further notice.

Still, some Moroccan travel operators argue that tourists might abstain from visiting the kingdom for a long time as the future is uncertain and governmental decisions are unpredictable.
