A Spanish NGO has launched a fundraising appeal to help a Moroccan two-year-old boy and his mother, as the son is undergoing severe health conditions.

Born in Nador, northern Morocco, the boy suffers from chronic renal failure and lives with a nasogastric tube to feed himself. The chronic disease causes malformations in his hands and digestive system.

The boy has already undergone four surgeries in less than three years and is waiting for a kidney transplant at the Virgen del Rocio Hospital.

The mother was able to obtain a residence permit in Malaga after months of struggle, but “does not have a work permit,” according to Lagunillas Cruz Verde Association’s president, Curro Lopez.

The Moroccan boy is currently undergoing treatment in Malaga while waiting for a kidney transplant. The Lagunillas Cruz Verde Association has launched a fundraising appeal to help the boy and his mother.

Doctors have advised this family to travel to their home of origin to spend some time with their family, as they have been in Spain for two years and will spend another five here, said Lopez.

“They have been in Spain for two years and will spend another five years here. We are asking for help, between 500 and 700 euros, to allow the child and his mother to return to Morocco for a while. He is like a son to us,” explained Lopez to Spanish outlet Viva Malaga.

The association’s president has been supporting the family since their arrival in the Spanish city of Malaga.

Lagunillas Cruz Verde Association is a civil society organization that operates a food bank in a Malaga neighborhood. Lopez added that they “help the family with translations, food, and support when they have to go to the hospital.”

The association has set up a bank account to raise funds to provide help to the Moroccan family.
