Rabat – Morocco’s police are investigating a murder case in Dakhla concerning a merchant who disappeared on February 7.
A statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said that the family of the victim notified the police that the person in question was missing.
The police investigation resulted in the discovery of “traces of a fire in a vacant lot not far from the scene of the crime.”
There, police officers found remains of charred bones and human teeth.
A biological examination carried out by Morocco’s National Laboratory of Scientific Police revealed that the remains correspond to the victim’s DNA sample.
The suspect involved in the crime used gasoline to burn the body of the victim.
Surveillance camera footage confirmed that another merchant who knew the victim bought 15 liters of gasoline in a container and new clothes after his worn clothes were stained with blood.
Surveillance cameras that were examined showed the suspected perpetrator’s presence with the victim in a warehouse, the alleged scene of the crime before he left the site alone.
The suspect’s body was then found near the beach in Dakhla.
Police are still continuing the investigation to shed light on the motives of the crime.
Judicial police and crime scene technicians are also conducting research to collect testimonies and additional evidence to shed light on the motives of the crime, particularly ‘since the victim is linked by financial and commercial transactions with the merchant whose body was washed up at sea,” DGSN added.
Investigations are also analyzing all DNA samples taken from the crime scene to determine the presence of any other potential suspects in connection with the case.
