Rabat – The Arab World Institute (AWI) will lend art pieces from its new collection to the  Moroccan Foundation of Museums (FNM).

FNM will use the AWI’s masterpieces during an exhibition that will take place this year across several provinces.

The idea emerged during discussions at a Paris conference on Tuesday between FNM President Mehdi Qotbi, AWI President Jack Lan, and the Director of Museum and Exhibitions at AWI Nathalie Bondil.

A joint press release from FNM and AWI said that the parties decided that masterpieces from a “unique collection” of the AWI will “be presented in Morocco “in the form of a traveling exhibition which will start in Rabat and continue in Tangier and Marrakech.

The decision is a first in AWI’s history, the two foundations highlighted.

The statement thanked King Mohammed VI’s vision to promote culture in Morocco, with the AWI expressing pride in “its contribution to this exceptional development.”

In September 2021, AWI and FNM signed a cooperation agreement to launch cultural projects throughout 2022.

The agreement includes the launch of projects such as an art library at the Mohammed VI Museum and the organization of the Biennial of Photography in the Contemporary Arab World.

After the signing of the agreement, AWI emphasized Morocco’s importance as an “exceptional country,” saying that the North African country “deserves an exceptional relationship with the Arab World Institute.”
