Rabat – Two Royal Air Maroc flights landed on Wednesday, March 2, in Casablanca, carrying 320 Moroccans fleeing Ukraine.
The flights are part of Royal Air Maroc’s special trips made available to Moroccans in Ukraine.
Last week, Morocco called on its citizens wishing to return back home to travel to Ukraine, crossing points with Slovakia, Romania, Hungary, and Poland amid the closure of Ukrainian airspace.
Yesterday’s two flights were Royal Air Maroc’s first special repatriation opportunities in operation.
In line with Morocco’s measures to assist Moroccans in Ukraine, Royal Air Maroc set the flights‘ prices at MAD 750 ($75).
The repatriation offer is exclusively for Moroccans wishing to return home.
The first plane took off on Wednesday afternoon from Poland’s capital Warsaw, while the second flew directly from Bucharest Airport to Casablanca.
State media agency MAP conveyed returnees’ satisfaction with Morocco’s measure, thanking the efforts made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and all relevant authorities seeking to ensure the safe return of Moroccans from Ukraine.
Students who were part of the air trips emphasized that the majority of students in Ukraine have selected distance education due to the Russian military offensive in the country.
Royal Air Maroc will carry out several similar repatriation operations from Ukraine’s neighboring countries.
Yesterday, Royal Air Maroc announced two new flights, next Saturday, from the cities of Kosice (Slovakia) and Warsaw (Poland) towards Casablanca.
More flights will also operate on March 3-4 from Bratislava, Bucharest, and Budapest to Casablanca.
To date, more than 5,000 Moroccans were able to flee Ukraine through crossing points with four of its neighboring countries.
Morocco dispatched staff in embassies in the neighboring countries to assist and welcome Moroccans.
