The 2026 FIFA World Cup is not only a battle between players and national teams; it is also a competition between some of the best coaches in world football.

France leads the coaching rankings at the tournament with five managers in charge of national teams, making it the most represented nation on the sidelines. Argentina follows closely with four coaches, while several other football powerhouses also maintain a strong presence.

French coaches currently in charge of World Cup teams include Didier Deschamps with France, Hervé Renard with Tunisia, Sébastien Desabre with DR Congo, Rudi Garcia with Belgium, and Sébastien Migné with Haiti. Before his dismissal after Tunisia’s opening defeat to Sweden, Sabri Lamouchi had also been part of the French coaching contingent.

The appointment of Hervé Renard by Tunisia during the tournament further strengthened France’s position as the leading exporter of managerial talent at this year’s World Cup. Renard replaced Sabri Lamouchi after Tunisia’s 5-1 loss to Sweden, becoming the first coaching change of the tournament.

Behind France, Argentina is strongly represented through coaches such as Lionel Scaloni (Argentina), Mauricio Pochettino (United States), Marcelo Bielsa (Uruguay), and Néstor Lorenzo (Colombia). Germany, Spain, and Italy also have multiple representatives managing national teams across the competition.

Morocco strengthens its coaching presence at the 2026 World Cup

While France dominates the coaching rankings, Morocco is emerging as an important contributor on the global coaching stage.

The kingdom is represented by Mohamed Ouahbi, who is in charge of the Moroccan national team, and Jamal Sellami, who leads Jordan at the tournament, after helping the country to enter the competition for the first time in its football history.

Ouahbi took charge of the Atlas Lions following Walid Regragui’s departure after Morocco’s run to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final. He arrived with a strong reputation after guiding Morocco to the FIFA U-20 World Cup title in 2025.

Under his leadership, Morocco has already shown promise on the world stage, opening its 2026 World Cup campaign with a strong 1-1 draw against Brazil, one of the tournament favorites.

Sellami’s presence with Jordan further highlights Morocco’s growing coaching footprint beyond its national team, showing the country’s expanding influence in international football management.

Other Nationalities

The 2026 World Cup coaching map highlights the global nature of football. Coaches from France, Argentina, Germany, Spain, Italy, Morocco, Mexico, Japan, Switzerland, Greece, the United States, England, Croatia, the Netherlands, Norway, South Korea, Australia, Ivory Coast, Scotland, Cape Verde, and several other nations are leading teams at the tournament.

However, no nation has a stronger overall presence than France. Whether leading traditional football powers or ambitious underdogs, French coaches continue to shape the tactical landscape of the World Cup.

As the tournament progresses, the battle between coaching philosophies could become just as important as the battles taking place on the pitch.
