Rabat – Morocco’s Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication Mehdi Bensaid and the President of Royal Moroccan Federation of Electronic Games (FMRJE) Hicham Lakhlifi have signed a partnership to strengthen the e-gaming field in the country.
Signed on March 2, the two institutions seek to cooperate in implementing several large-scale opportunities regarding the e-gaming industry.
The agreement aims to strengthen the role of youth in e-games spaces before the year 2026 as well as establishing an “E-Botola” competition in partnership with the Royal Football Federation (FRMF).
The agreement comes following the development of the international market, as the e-games market alone amounts to $160 billion annually, surpassing the value of the global movie industry. The global gaming market is expected to surpass $256.97 billion by 2025
Morocco intends to further invest in the fast growing industry as a response to its increasing popularity among youth.
The two institutions are set to establish specific entertainment spaces for youth to develop their skills in e-gaming and prepare them for international tournaments.
Morocco has so far equipped 28 Youth centers with an e-gaming space, the number of youth centers is expected to reach 100 within this year.
Last week, the FMRJE announced that Morocco will feature among participating countries in the FIFAe Nations Series 2022 tournament.
Through the FIFAe competition, the FRMJE and the FRMF intend to boost the integration of Moroccan youth in esports by organizing a tournament where national coach Saad Bassy will identify the best players to represent Morocco in FIFAe.
As a new country in the competition, Morocco will go directly to the online qualifiers of the FIFAe Nations Series 2022 which will take place from May 19 to 22, 2022.
