Rabat – The epidemiological situation in Morocco remains under control announced Morocco’s Ministry of Health and Social Protection on Tuesday, March 15.

The ministry stressed the need to respect COVID-19 preventive measures to maintain the stability of the situation in Morocco amid a global increase in COVID-19 cases for the first time in five weeks.

Mouad Mrabet, the coordinator of the National Center for Public Health Emergency, presented the bimonthly report on the epidemiological situation in Morocco, which showed a marked improvement in all regions.

“The spread of the new COVID-19 variant remains low in all regions of the Kingdom, where a considerable drop in cases has been recorded for the seventh consecutive week,” said Mrabet.

The report stated that Morocco recorded 450 new cases last week, marking a significant decline of 40% in comparison to the week before.

The rate of positive COVID-19 tests in the country has also declined, recording only 0.8%, which is the lowest positive rate since the beginning of the spread of the virus in Morocco in 2020.

Mrabet highlighted that the basic reproduction number of cases remains at an index of less than one for 52 days.

The number of critical and severe cases of COVID-19 in Morocco recorded a decline for the sixth consecutive week, Mrabet added. Last week, 63 COVID-19 patients were admitted to intensive care and 83 patients were discharged from it after recovery.

The report added that the number of COVID-19 deaths marked a decline for the fifth consecutive week, with 22 cases in the past week, down 44% from the week before.

Mrabet reiterated the call of the Ministry of Health and Social protection for all Moroccan citizens to continue adhering to the national vaccination campaigns by receiving the three doses of the vaccine as well as respecting COVID-19 precautions.
