Rabat – The Portuguese Football Federation has reached a full agreement with veteran coach Jorge Jesus to become the new head coach of the Portugal national team, replacing Roberto Martinez, according to AFP.
Jesus, 71 years-old, is about to be officially unveiled during a press conference on Friday at 2:00 p.m. GMT at the federation’s headquarters near Lisbon.
The experienced Portuguese manager takes charge just five days after Portugal’s elimination from the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Spain in the Round of 16.
According to the same source, Jesus will sign a four-year contract that will keep him in charge until the 2030 FIFA World Cup, a tournament that Portugal will co-host alongside Spain and Morocco.
Jesus has managed several of the country’s biggest clubs, including Benfica and Sporting CP. His extensive international résumé also includes successful spells with Brazil’s Flamengo, Turkey’s Fenerbahçe, and Saudi Arabian clubs Al Hilal and Al Nassr.
Jesus succeeds Roberto MartÃnez, who had been in charge of Portugal since 2023 and led the Seleção to the UEFA Nations League title in 2025 before their disappointing World Cup campaign came to an end against Spain.
