Rabat – Morocco’s National Tourist Office (ONMT) and low-cost Irish airline Ryanair sealed a partnership agreement for the 2022 summer season.
In a Facebook post today, March 17, ONMT stressed that Ryanair CEO Eddie Wilson traveled to Rabat to sign the partnership with Adel El Fakir, managing director of ONMT.
Accompanied by Jason McGuinness, commercial director of the airline, Wilson held several working meetings with ONMT teams before concluding the partnership agreement for the next summer season.
The ONMT described the partnership as a “historic agreement,” noting that it will increase the airline’s air capacity to Morocco by 54% for the summer of 2022 compared to 2019, as well as establishing 10 new air links between Morocco and Europe.
Ryanair intends to operate 27 routes starting this summer, connecting 45 European airports to 10 Moroccan destinations in Agadir, Essaouira, Fez, Marrakech, Nador, Ouarzazate, Oujda, Rabat, Tangier and Tetouan.
Meanwhile, ten routes are inaugurated between Europe and Morocco: London Stansted–Tangier, Rome-Tangier, Las Palmas-Marrakech, Edinburgh-Marrakech, Limoges-Marrakech, Alicante-Marrakech, Porto-Fez, Lisbon-Fez, Rome-Fez, Bologna-Fez.
On Wilson’s special visit to Morocco, El Fakir stressed that it testifies to Ryanair’s notable commitment to Morocco as a travel destination, according to a press release.
El Fakir highlighted that a rapid and sustainable resumption of tourism activity remains one of the ONMT’s top priorities.
Meanwhile, Ryanair’s CEO said, “Morocco is one of our priority markets, due to its strong attractiveness and the growing demand from travelers for this destination year after year.”
In November 2021, Ryanair inaugurated a new base of operations at the Agadir-Al Massira airport as part of its partnership agreement with ONMT to boost the destination’s attractiveness.
The initiative is set to strengthen air links between Agadir and 20 other destinations including Madrid, Barcelona, Rome, Napoli, Paris, Toulouse and Porto.
