Rabat – The Secretary-General of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Hussein Ibrahim Taha has applauded the pivotal role of Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency, chaired by King Mohammed VI, in supporting the Palestinian people and their steadfastness.

Taha highlighted Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency’s continuous efforts and commitment to protect Jerusalem, in a report presented during the 48th session of the OIC’s foreign ministers’ meeting in Islamabad, Pakistan on Wednesday.

Founded by King Hassan II, Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency focuses on socio-economic development at Al-Quds (Jerusalem) and the preservation of local Islamic cultural heritage.

Despite limited funding, the agency is implementing vital projects that have a tangible impact on the lives of Palestinian people, the protection of Jerusalem, and the preservation of its heritage, the report said.

OIC secretary general highlighted that the agency puts the human development sector among its priorities, as instructed by King Mohammed VI in a Royal message in 2020 to the chairman of the UN Committee on the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People Cheikh Niang.

In 2021, Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency spent over $3.7 billion in development projects in Jerusalem, mainly in education, health, culture, youth, and sports sectors.

Health and social care projects accounted for over 63% of the agency’s total projects implemented in the city.

The Moroccan delegation that attended the 48th session included Morocco’s permanent representative to the OIC Mustafa Al-Mansouri and the Director of the Orient, the Gulf, Arab and Islamic Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Fouad Akhrif.

Also in the delegation was head of the Department of Arab and Islamic Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Abdelali Al-Jahed, Deputy Permanent Representative of Morocco to the OIC in Jeddah, Othman Rahho, Moroccan Ambassador to Pakistan Mohamed Karmoun, and the official in charge of management at the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency Mohamed Salem Cherkaoui.
