Rabat – Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Minister Nasser Bourita on Tuesday welcomed US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. The meeting served as an opportunity for Morocco and the US to reiterate their commitment to cooperation at all levels.
In a press conference, Bourita said that he discussed different topics during his meeting with Blinken, including bilateral partnerships between the countries.
“This visit is a confirmation of the partnership and its diversity at the political, security, and military levels,” the Moroccan FM said in the press conference.
He continued to add that the two countries collaborate on the issue of regional stability, emphasizing the “common values” both the US and Morocco share.
“Blinken’s visit contributed to sending strong messages about the strength of this bilateral partnership and the possibilities that can be exploited for the benefit of security and stability,” the Moroccan FM added.
Bourita conveyed King Mohammed VI’s strong desire to see the partnership between the two countries further developed at all levels.
The Moroccan minister also recalled the tripartite agreement Morocco signed along with the US and Israel in December 2020.
The agreement came as part of the re-establishment of relations between Morocco and Israel.
“We thank the United States of America as a party to the tripartite agreement signed before his majesty the King in December 2020,” Bourita said, emphasizing that the partnership deal “yielded positive results.”
He emphasized that this agreement could contribute to serving the interests of the Moroccan and Israeli people.
During the joint press conference, Bourita also said Morocco’s “principled vision” contributed to regional stability, emphasizing the country’s support for a two-state solution to end the Palestine-Israeli conflict.
Bourita emphasized that Morocco backs Palestine’s independence, supporting the establishment of a Palestinian state within the 1976 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Blinken arrived in Morocco on March 28 for a three-day visit. He landed in Morocco immediately after his visit to Israel, where he participated in the Negev Summit. Morocco also took part in the summit held on Sunday and Monday.
During the visit, Blinken will meet with several senior Moroccan officials to discuss cooperation and bilateral ties.
Prior to his visit, the Mo US State Department released a communique, emphasizing the importance and strong diplomatic relations connecting the two countries.
