Rabat –  The United Arab Emirates Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan is due to visit  Morocco this week, according to the US Department of States.

Sheikh Al Nahyan’s visit will coincide with US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken’s stop in Morocco,  the department said  in a press release last week

Secretary Blinken, UAE’s Crown Prince, and Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita will “discuss regional security and international developments” in Rabat.

Blinken is expected to arrive in Morocco by March 30, marking his first official visit to Morocco as US secretary.

Bourita and Blinken are expected to consult on regional issues, review cooperation between the countries, and discuss ways to advance human rights and youth engagement in Morocco.

The North African stop is part of the US official’s journey to Israel, the West Bank, Morocco, and Algeria from March 26 to 30.

The visit will review “regional and global priorities” on the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine, Iranian “destabilizing activities,” Israeli-Palestinian conflict’s two-state solution, and the Abraham Accords, added the press release.

On March 27, Bourita and three of his Arab counterparts attended the “historic” Negev summit in southern Israel.

The Moroccan chief diplomat, UAE’s Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Bahrain’s Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, and Egypt’s Sameh Shoukry discussed regional challenges for the countries.

The UAE also signed a normalization agreement with Israel in August 2020 roughly four months before Morocco in which the countries agreed to develop and maintain good diplomatic relations. As well as showing interest in advancing bilateral cooperation with Israel and the US, the two countries are long-standing diplomatic allies and trade partners.

UAE investments in Morocco target strategic sectors such as renewable energy, real estate, tourism, agriculture, and infrastructure.

In March, Morocco chose UAE as the guest of honor at the 15th Conference of Energy. The event tackled the rising energy demand amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and its economic impact at the national, regional, and international levels.
