Morocco’s E-Commerce Startup Chari to Expand Operations

Rabat – Morocco’s Fintech startup Chari announced earlier this week plans to expand its service offering to the whole of Morocco.

Chari plans to open seven new warehouses in Marrakech, Agadir, Khouribga, Meknes, Oujda, Errachidia, and Laayoune, the company said in a press release.

Chari opened on Tuesday a new office in Casablanca, which will employ more than a hundred customer service agents.

During the opening, the startup equally announced a number of new appointments including Yassine Dallihi as Chari’s Country Operations Manager in Morocco, and Khalid Debbarh as Purchasing Director in charge of relations with suppliers.

Chari, a Business-to-Business (B2B) e-commerce platform, launched its first warehouse in Casablanca in January 2020. The startup later opened a second warehouse in Tanger.

Chari is a mobile app that offers grocery stores services including free-of-charge product delivery.

The Tanger, Casablanca warehouses are now working with over 15,000 grocery stores across Morocco’s North Atlantic coast, the company said in a press release. The startup has already generated a MAD 500 million ($51.5 million) so far this year.

Chari recently acquired the Karny.ma application, a credit record service used in over 50,000 sales points in Morocco. The company hopes the move will help it expand through French-speaking parts of Africa.

“In the span of two years, Chari has established itself as a major player in Morocco’s customer goods distribution,”  Ismael Belkhayat, Co-founder and CEO of Chari said. “We are proud of how far we came, and we still have a long way to go to reach our full potential.”
