Rabat – France on Monday reiterated its support for Morocco’s Autonomy Plan, describing it as a “serious and credible basis” to help resolve the dispute over the Western Sahara.
The French government also expressed willingness to continue backing the UN-led political process.
“It is through dialogue that common challenges can be overcome,” the government added.
France’s statement followed Spain’s new position in favor of Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara.
The Spanish government on Friday officially endorsed Morocco’s Autonomy Plan as the “most” credible and efficient solution to end the conflict over Western Sahara.
In addition, the Spanish government also reiterated its determination to continue to work with Morocco to strengthen diplomatic relations and trade cooperation between the two countries.
Spain’s position marked the end of an unprecedented diplomatic crisis with Morocco.
Morocco applauded Spain’s new position, saying the move provides a “clear and ambitious roadmap” to advance the bilateral relations between Morocco and Spain.
France will also maintain good diplomatic ties with EU neighboring countries as well as non-EU members, the European country added.
