Rabat – After winning Morocco’s poetry slam “D’klam”, Moroccan poet Saad Khaled is set to represent Morocco at the World Poetry Slam 2022.

The young Moroccan competed against 24 poets from all over Morocco in the second edition of D’klam, which took place on March 19 and 20 this year at L’uzine cultural center in Casablanca.

The participants in D’klam deliver poems in various languages such as Moroccan Darija, Amazigh, Arabic, French, and English, reflecting the linguistic and cultural richness in Morocco.

During the competition, Khaled performed poems written in a mixture of Arabic, French, and Moroccan Darija, three of which will be recorded.

The second prize went to Achraf Chakir from Temara, whose entries were written in English. Two of his poems will also be recorded in a professional studio.

Achraf El Ouad from Oujda won third place in the competition. The jury selected one of his poems to be recorded. The poem is written in French, Arabic, and Moroccan Darija.

This competition was organized by three cultural groups: G38’, SlaM’aroc, and Moroccan Poets, in partnership with various international poetry festivals such as Grand Poetry Slam, Slamproduction Bureau, and DZ’Slam Poetry.

This year’s edition was organized under the slogan “Chkoun aydiha had l3am?”, meaning “who’s going to win this year?”, with the audience voting on the winners.

Saad Khaled will participate in the World Poetry Slam 2022, which will take place between May 23 and 19 in Paris, France, and the African Cup of Slam Poetry 2023.

The other winners will have the opportunity to tour various international festivals set up with the D’klam collaborators.
