Moroccan Business Schools: Africa Needs Balanced Development Models

Rabat –  Morocco’s Network of Business and Management Schools (ENCGs) has called for resilient, balanced, and equitable development models in the African countries to create a better future for the continent and its people.

The ENCG network organized on March 14 and 15  the first edition of the International Multidisciplinary Dialogue in Dakhla under the theme, “Better Manage Africa: Towards Resilient and Solidarity-Based Development Models.”

“Africa is being built and can no longer be managed on the basis of models based on aid, debt, and the export of primary products,” noted the organizers. “African countries need models that value their tangible and intangible capital and their cultural diversity [to achieve] well-being, cohesion, resource conservation; attractiveness and resilience, and wealth.”

Bringing together academics and experts from political, social, and developmental fields, the event provides a space for knowledge sharing and debate to review the relevance of operating development models and contribute to the ongoing conceptualization and implementation of new development models in Africa.

The organizers divided the  International Multidisciplinary Dialogue into six thematic symposiums on governance, social transformation, African economies and Industry 4.0, investment and continental attractiveness, and entrepreneurship and innovation.

The symposium also addressed the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic on the African economies.

The Director of ENCG Dakhla, Aziz Sair stated that the event is a start for a strong and lasting partnership between ENCG schools across the country and local, national, and international partners interested in social issues.

In 2021, Morocco adopted a new ambitious development model that offers a roadmap for the country’s social and economic programs by 2035.

Saad Dine El Otmani, who was then Morocco’s Head of Government, described the launch of the new model as a“historic moment as the Moroccans have waited so long for the new model of development.”

Developed by a special commission, the model provides a results-driven approach to socio-economic issues and a capacity-building approach to develop individual and organizational capabilities.

The two approaches intend to increase Morocco’s competitiveness in the region, preserve its natural resources, develop its education and health sectors, and tackle territorial and social inequalities across the country.
