Rabat – Morocco World News is marking its 11th anniversary with a celebration of women’s empowerment and progress through the inaugural MWN Women’s Awards. The award will feature eleven inspiring individuals who made their unique mark on Moroccan society.

The new annual award will feature 11 different categories, spanning leadership, science, health, diplomacy, and the arts, among others. An independent panel will select 11 candidates who have excelled in their particular fields, and highlight their remarkable contributions to Morocco.

The importance of gender equality is not an academic pursuit or societal goal at Morocco World News. We live it every day. We are proud to have 70% of our staff composed of inspiring young women who select, edit, and produce the quality content that our global readership relies on.

The path towards full gender equality and shared opportunities is long and hard. Much work is still to be done and much progress is still ahead of us. In order to celebrate past victories and inspire future progress, Morocco World News is delighted to announce the first edition of the MWN Women’s Awards.

From diplomacy to fashion, women in Morocco leave flourishing footprints in their careers.

While efforts are ongoing and must be encouraged to further ensure generalized gender equality across the country, Morocco remains a good case study for substantial change in terms of women’s empowerment.

Morocco’s 2011 constitutional reforms pushed for further inclusion of women in policymaking as well as in the economic sector.

These efforts can be seen in the recent 2021 elections in Morocco, where at least six Moroccan women were at the forefront of the newly formed government.

It is MWN’s hope that the 11 recipients of the MWN Women’s Awards will continue their paths of success and inspire generations of Moroccans.
