Rabat – With the number of visitors averaging 12 million every year, Morocco is Africa’s second most visited country on the African continent.

The North African country is only second to Egypt. The land of the Pharaohs welcomes an average visitors count of 13 million every year, according to a report from the African Exponent.

Morocco’s cultural and historical heritage puts its cities among the top tourist destinations worldwide. In particular, the Moroccan city of Marrakech has cultivated a reputation for being a world-class tourist destination.

The city is home to some of the world’s finest hotels and luxury resorts, including the Royal Mansour Hotel which claimed the title of the best hotel in the world in 2021.

Morocco’s government considers tourism a key sector for the socio-economic development of the country. In addition to Morocco’s historic and cultural appeal to tourists, the government has considerably invested in recent years in improving the country’s prospects as a tourist destination.

Last Friday, Morocco’s National Tourism Office (ONMT) launched a new campaign aiming to promote Morocco as an international holiday destination.

Dubbed “Morocco, the Land of Light,” the brand especially targets young tourists and is set to extend to 18 countries including France, Germany, Spain, the UK, the Middle East, and African countries, the ONMT said.

Using large-scale advertisements that highlight the country’s natural and geographic potential, the campaign will seek to attract tourists of all types.

The “Morocco, the Land of Light” campaign is in line with ONMT’s goal of reviving tourism to Moroccan destinations post-pandemic.

Prior to the launching of the campaign, ONMT representatives traveled to a number of countries on working visits, with the aim of meeting with tourism operators and signing agreements aimed at attracting more visitors and airlines to Morocco.
