Rabat – The General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR) has announced that inmates will be allowed to receive food baskets from their families and relatives for Eid Al-Fitr, reported Morocco’s state press agency (MAP).
Foreign prisoners will receive food baskets from diplomatic and consular representation agents, MAP added on Monday.
According to MAP, the DGAPR has made an exception during holiday events, seeing the positive effect that this celebration has on the mentality of inmates, and its important role in bringing families closer.
The DGAPR added that prison institutions will provide the necessary measures to make it easier for inmates to contact their families to inform them of the required conditions for the food baskets and the exact date in which they will be delivered.
According to a 2017 press release, the DGAPR banned food baskets in all prisons in Morocco. This decision was made in order to combat the circulation of illegal drugs.
The DGAPR noted that food baskets offer a major opportunity for illicit drugs to be trafficked into Moroccan prisons.

The DGAPR urged all inmates’ families to “seriously and responsibly engage and actively contribute to the success of this process, without attempting to exploit it to [smuggle anything] that would threaten the security and safety of the prison institution.”
Prison inmates in Morocco used to receive food baskets from their families and relatives. These food baskets would mostly consist of food, which will be either cooked or in the form of raw supplies such as oil, sugar, and tea. Food baskets can also include clothing, soap, and other products that the inmate might need.
