Rabat – The first day of Eid Al Fitr 2022 will take place on Monday, May 2 in the Netherlands, according to the Blue Mosque.
“We wish everyone a blessed day in advance, Monday 2 May 2022 is Eidu l-Fitr,” the mosque announced on Facebook.
Eid Al Fitr is the first day of Shawwal, the 10th month of the lunar Islamic calendar.
Eid Al Fitr is an Islamic holiday that Muslims celebrate to congratulate themselves on fasting for the entire month of Ramadan.
It is a reward for Muslims who fasted and worshiped Allah during the holy month of Ramadan.
Similar to Eid al Adha, Eid Al Fitr begins with communal prayers in mosques or a vast, open space early in the morning.
Following the prayer, family members gather for food and drinks. They greet each other with an “Eid Mubarak”, meaning blessed Eid. Eid greetings vary depending on language and country.
In most countries, Eid celebrations usually run for three days. Most Muslims pay visits to friends, family, and loved ones to exchange gifts and eat festive meals.
Prior to the Eid Al Fitr day, Muslims are required to pay Zakat Al Fitr, a mandatory charity to help families in need, who otherwise would not be able to participate in the Eid celebrations.
Muslims in the Netherlands make special preparations for the Eid Al Fitr festival every year.
They eagerly await the moon sighting in order to learn the official date of the holiday and schedule their activities accordingly.
According to the Go to Pray website, Eid Al Fitr 2022 prayer will take place at 6:23 a.m. in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
“You can also pray Eid Al Fitr prayer/salat in your home with your family or alone if you can’t go to the mosque for a serious reason,” the website said.
According to Statista, The Netherlands has over 17.1 million inhabitants, 5% of which are Muslims.
