Rabat – Morocco on Monday welcomed the first passenger and vehicle ferries into Tangier City port from Tarifa in Spain, after months of border closures.
The Spanish Transportation company, FRS Ferry, organized the trips.
Tarifa port tweeted this morning that “the earliest cars have boarded this morning from the port of Tarifa on the Algeciras Jet fast ferry and are already in Tangier City.”
The port shared the schedule for ferries for passengers and vehicles with the first trip leaving Tarifa port at 9 a.m. and the last one leaving at 9 p.m.
The ferries are scheduled every two hours from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The passengers have to present their ticket and a negative PCR test (less than 72 hours old) or vaccination pass.

Ferries connecting the Spanish ports of Tarifa and Algeciras to the Moroccan ports of Tanger Med and Tangier City resumed operations on April 12.
FRS Ferry transported more than 200 passengers on the first day of operations. The passengers boarded ferries connecting Algeciras and Tanger Med as well as Tarifa and Tanger Ville.
“Yesterday we were the first shipping company to sail between Spain and Morocco after the opening of borders,” the company tweeted on April 13.
Medium and long-haul maritime shipments from the ports of Tangier Med and Nador to Spain, France, and Italy also resumed operations on April 11.
Morocco’s sea border reopens two months after the reorganization of flights to and from the country.
The decision came after a diplomatic rapprochement between Rabat and Madrid in March. This was followed by the visit of Spanish president Pedro Sanchez to Rabat and his country’s official endorsement of Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara.
