FIFA released today the first track from the Qatar 2022 official soundtrack just hours before the World Cup 2022 draw.

Tonight’s draw will include the song’s debut in the presence of some special guests.

The track “Hayya Hayya” (Better Together), released by Def Jam Recordings and produced by Morocco’s RedOne, features Nigerian David, Qatari Aisha, and American Trinidad Cardona.

RedOne made an appearance in the video of the song shot in the desert, in reference to Qatar. The Moroccan producer has been the Executive Director of Creative Entertainment within FIFA for 3 months now.

FIFA believes that announcing the soundtrack is in line with its sound strategy the international football body launched in early 2021.

Another goal is “to connect with audiences worldwide through the shared passions of football and music,” said a statement from FIFA.

The soundtrack, joining singers from the Americas, Africa, and the Middle East, reflects FIFA’s belief that “music – and football – can unite the world,” said FIFA’s Chief Commercial Officer Kay Madati.

The song is influenced by R&B and reggae, and it is the first in a slew of songs that will likely be released from now until November 21 as part of the official World Cup soundtrack.

Another of FIFA’s requirements for the World Cup in Qatar is that for the first time, the World Cup soundtrack will feature multiple musical themes rather than a single one.

“International artists [will] showcase diverse musical genres that span the world, setting the tone for a truly global celebration,” FIFA noted.

For song participants, the song embodies the main aim of FIFA and sport in general. Cardona commented saying that “It’s a celebration, it embodies everything the FIFA World Cup stands for. People from all around the world coming together, and I just love that message.”

Nigerian Davido expressed pride for taking part in the song, saying “‘We are better together’ went right to my heart.”

Expressing her great feelings of pride and joy to see her country as the first Arab country to organize the world’s most prestigious tournament, Aisha highlighted how the “song’s message of togetherness and joy resonated with [her].”
