Rabat – Ramadan is expected to begin in Qatar on Saturday, April 2, according to Qatar’s Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs.
The Ministry’s moon sighting committee called on all Muslims living in Qatar to participate in the sighting of the Ramadan crescent moon on Friday evening, April 1, 2022, corresponding to Sha’ban 19, 1443 AH.
The committee urged whoever sights the crescent moon to report their testimony to the headquarters of the Ministry, located in the Al-Dafna district in Doha.
The committee, which consists of astronomers and experts from Qatar’s Islamic authorities, will gather after sunset on Sha’ban 29 to look for the new crescent moon.
If the crescent moon is seen on April 1, Tarawih evening prayers will start on the same evening and Ramadan will begin the following day.
On March 30, Qatar’s Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Sulaiti announced Ramadan working hours for ministries, government agencies, and public institutions.
The official working hours during the holy month for civil servants are five hours a day, from 9 am until 2 pm.
Similar to Saudi Arabia, Qatar has lifted most of its COVID-19 precautionary measures for the holy month of Ramadan.
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has announced that all mosques in Qatar, including women’s prayer areas, will be open during Ramadan.
In addition, the Ministry will host religious activities for Ramadan, such as religious lectures in different languages, seminars, and contests for children and adults.
The Ministry will also launch special programs to support those in need during Ramadan.
