Casablanca’s Raja Athletic Club President Anis Mahfoud has announced that he intends to sue former Moroccan international player and football analyst Youssef Chippo for “defamation” of his club’s managing board.
In a short clip broadcasted on Raja Athletic Club’s social media platforms on Saturday, Mahfoud said Chippo “went to the extremes” in his latest statements to the Qatari sports channel BeIN Sports following the Raja-Al Ahly game in the African Champions League quarter-finals.
Chippo’s “derogatory” and “insulting” comments, argued Mahfoud, prompted Raja AC’s board to seek legal proceedings against the prominent Moroccan football player.
Last month, the football analyst at BeIN Sports lashed out against the Raja executive board, holding it responsible for the disappointing defeat against the Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
Frustrated with the elimination, Chippo overtly criticized the managing board for “failing” to be up to Raja fans’ continuous and unconditional support.
“I’m sad for the fans who supported their team all game long. They deserved better. Raja’s leadership is amateurish. They only run after their own interests. I hope they will leave because they have failed to manage such a great club as Raja,” said the former international footballer.
He further argued that the board’s transfer policy of selling key players in the transfer windows has greatly affected the club’s squad depth.
“The board could not build a solid team and sign great players after letting go last season their three best players – Soufiane Rahimi, Ben Malango, and Abdelilah Hafidi,” Chippo stressed. “The club needs directors with a clear and transparent project in order to overcome past recurrent setbacks.”
Both Raja AC players and the executive board have been under fire lately following the team’s disappointing defeat against Egypt’s Al Ahly.
Many Raja AC fans are demanding considerable changes in the squad, notably calling for massive signings in order to get back on track and reclaim its spot among the best African teams in continental tournaments like the CAF Champions League and the CAF in competition with the African teams.
Several other supporters are calling for a radical change in the club’s executive board, asking for new management with new and innovative ideas that could take the club out of the current crisis.
