Agadir – Morocco has signed two agreements aimed at expanding local manufacturing and research capabilities in hydraulic equipment for strategic sectors, including water, desalination, energy, and mining.
The agreements were signed on Wednesday by Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezzour and Yassine Laghzioui, General Manager of PHOVA Technology, a Moroccan company specializing in the engineering and manufacturing of hydraulic equipment.
“Today, as part of the visit of the Minister of Industry and Trade, we had the opportunity to sign two very important agreements with PHOVA Technology and the Ministry of Industry and Trade,” Laghzioui stated.
The first agreement concerns financing for the “GreenSense 4.0” project under Morocco’s Innovation Support Fund. The initiative seeks to develop self-powered Internet of Things (IoT) sensors and a digital twin system for predictive maintenance of smart hydraulic infrastructure through PHOVA Technology’s proprietary “PHOVA Connect” platform.
“It will enable our equipment to operate more efficiently and help predict potential failures before they occur,” Laghzioui explained.
The second agreement is a memorandum of understanding focused on industrial integration. It aims to strengthen local engineering and manufacturing capacities for hydraulic equipment used in water supply and desalination projects.
This agreement will also “allow us to leverage the research and development center established by Pova to meet Morocco’s investment needs in the water sector, particularly in desalination projects,” Laghzioui added.
The initiative forms part of Morocco’s broader efforts to increase local integration in the desalination sector from 30% to 70%, in line with the national vision regarding water security and industrial sovereignty.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mezzour said the partnership reflects Morocco’s ability to build advanced industrial capabilities through determination, innovation, and local expertise.
“This experience, which began ten years ago with a simple question about the possibility of importing what can be manufactured locally, embodies the nation’s ability to take hold of its destiny when armed with will, ambition, and self-awareness,” the minister maintained.
He stressed that the achievements realized so far represent only the beginning of a promising journey and called for similar initiatives to be replicated across other industrial sectors.
Mezzour also commended the role of Moroccan youth in driving innovation and creating high-value employment opportunities.
“The boldness, intelligence, and team spirit of Moroccan youth have enabled the creation of job opportunities and significant national added value,” the minister said, urging stakeholders to accelerate innovation and technological development.
On the sidelines of the event, Mezzour visited PHOVA Technology’s research and development center, where he reviewed the company’s technological infrastructure and ongoing innovation projects.
During the visit, the company unveiled three high-performance industrial pumps that were fully designed and manufactured in Morocco according to the standards of the American Hydraulic Institute.
The pumps are intended for use in chemical industries, water treatment and desalination facilities, as well as mining and general industrial operations, showcasing Morocco’s growing ability to master the entire value chain of critical hydraulic equipment, from engineering and design to manufacturing.
