Fez – The number of Moroccan minors who fled the World School Cross Country Championship 2022 in Slovakia, has risen to eight missing youngsters.
Saudi news outlet Al Arabiya quoted an official in the Education Ministry who confirmed the latest figure, stressing that two minors have managed to flee the hotel prior to the Moroccan delegation’s return to Morocco.
The two minors abandoned the Moroccan delegation just a few hours before the Moroccan delegate boarded the plane to return to Morocco.
Various reports claimed that the runaway youngsters grabbed the opportunity of the delegation’s last-minute preparations before heading to the airport, and secretly left the hotel, where the Moroccan athletes stayed during the competition.
It was only later when members of the delegation noticed that the two Moroccan minors were missing.
Having looked everywhere but with no leads whatsoever, the delegation decided to board the Morocco-bound plane and return home with eight Moroccan minors missing.
With these latest missing athletes, the number of Moroccan minors who fled the championship in Slovakia has reached eight individuals, after earlier news that six athletes had attempted to stay in Slovakia had shaken the education ministry last week.

The six athletes, one of whom is a female, abandoned the hotel where the Moroccan delegate was staying on Monday, April 25, leaving Moroccan sports in front of a new “ravaging scandal.”
The six athletes were seen fleeing the hotel at around 5 a.m, heading to the train station, according to a statement made last week by an education ministry official.
The official further regretted the Moroccan minors’ attempt at irregular migration, as they had a bright future lying ahead.
The official also underlined that the ministry is yet to hold a meeting with the Moroccan delegation to shed more light on the incident.
